“Unison Behavioral Services saved my life! Well, that’s not exactly true. GOD gave me this wonderful staff who tirelessly aided me in my re-entry into society after going to prison for two years.”
Yes, I know, I was shocked too!! Besides being traumatized by actually GOING to prison, I was sent to a facility more than six hours from my home and family. No one visited and I rarely received any letters for the entire duration of my stay. Before I actually was arrested and my felony probation revoked, I had inquired with my therapist at that time, Paul, that I was interested in rehabilitative services and help with living arrangements through the mental health program. But soon after, I was involved in yet another felony charge and sent directly to jail….do not pass GO, do not collect $200. Luckily, once released, Mr. Paul steered me into the hands of an angel, my Intensive Case Manager, Bobbie Johns. She was and still is one of the most influential people I’ve ever encountered. Everyone sympathized and comforted my “situation”, which was, HOMELESSNESS, JOBLESSNESS, FEELINGS OF HOPELESSNESS, GUILT, SHAME, and EMBARRASSMENT. Each department, from my doctor, nurse, therapist and Intensive Case Manager advocated for me with parole, court and family responsibilities. I even had help with transportation to obtain a job! Without Unison Behavioral’s help I could have quickly returned to PRISON! The shock of being sheltered, fed and not having to deal with the pressures of the “real world”, and then being thrown into it, really was challenging and difficult. But, my friends at Unison, stood by and cheered me on every step of the way into my new successful life. I now have a home, transportation, a job and most importantly, relationships with GOD, my family and myself. I love the foundation they helped me to build. And all because they cared and had hope in me. I will never be able to repay what they have done. But, one day I hope to give back to someone what was so freely given to me. GOD BLESS UNISON BEHAVORIAL, Carla Johnson and Debra Maine!!! Without you, I would be lost. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me.”
